Ottawa NACTO Urban Streets and Bikeway Design Guide Training
Tailored National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Urban Streets and Bikeway Design Guide training allows cross departmental learning among 48 staff.
The NACTO Urban Street and Urban Bikeway Design Guides chart the principles and practices of North America’s foremost engineers, planners and designers working in cities today. As certified NACTO trainers, Gavin Davidson and Nick Falbo from Alta Planning led a day-long workshop for 48 City of Ottawa staff from various departments. The training involved, in part, review and discussion of Street Design Principles, Design Controls, Interim Design Strategies, Intersection Design Elements, Signal design and operation and various facility types including Neighbourhood Street Bikeways, Protected Bike Lanes and Intersections, Roundabouts and Complete Streets.
The training was followed by a workshop that examined potential design improvements for a complex and challenging intersection in Ottawa and culminated in group presentations and discussions.
The training and workshop was well received by staff, 100% of whom rated the workshop as Good (16%), Very Good (31%), and Excellent (53%) in the post training survey.
