A rendering of Concert Properties’ Harbourside development
Concert Properties Harbourside Development Review
A focused policy review allows Concert Properties to achieve capital cost savings and improved end of trip facilities for Harbourside Development in City of North Vancouver.
Client: Staff from GJD Planning working on behalf of HUB Cycling for Concert Properties
Concert’s Harbourside is a planned, multi-tower residential, commercial and office development in the City of North Vancouver. Local development Bylaws require bike parking and end-of-trip facilities within each building. Concert instead proposed a centralized secure bike storage, change rooms and showers at street level in the central courtyard of the development. Gavin Davidson led HUB Cycling staff and local cycling advocates in undertaking an objective assessment of Concert’s plan in relation to Bylaw requirements and found, in this circumstance, that Concert’s proposed bike parking and end-of-trip facilities to be more accessible, convenient, safe and secure than those required through the Bylaw. North Vancouver staff and Council reviewed HUB’s report and granted Concert a variance, allowing them to build consolidated secure bike parking, change rooms and shower facilities. Concert’s SPA (Secure Bike Area) will offer a highly visible, attractive and secure option for those who choose to cycle.
