Metro Vancouver State of Cycling Report
The compilation of key metrics offers a comprehensive understanding of Metro Vancouver’s regional cycling network in relation to key outcomes including investment, ridership and collisions involving people riding bicycles.
Client: HUB/Translink
For the first time, TransLink has a comprehensive understanding of the regional cycling network in relation to key outcomes including municipal investment, ridership and collisions involving people riding bicycles.
The State of Cycling Report for Metro Vancouver assesses the region’s quality and quantity of bikeways, the number of residents regularly cycling, and the safety of the cycling network.
Staff from GJD Planning + Design led a research team in a collaborative project involving TransLink, HUB Cycling, the Province and municipal agencies throughout the region, to deliver this important resource.
This project recently won an award for Research and New Directions from the Planning Institute of BC.
The State of Cycling in Metro Vancouver is an important study that will be of immediate and ongoing benefit to local, regional and provincial government agencies …. This unique study:
- Highlights connections between cycling network design, usage & collision rates;
- Supports on-line route-planning tools & print maps, allowing cyclists to select routes that match their needs and comfort levels;
- Guides planning by highlighting cycling facilities that require upgrades and gaps in the network; and
- Allows researchers to better understand health outcomes associated with local cycling networks throughout Metro Vancouver.
